Lasting Power
of Attorney

If for some reason – such as being hospitalised for a long period, having a stroke or having dementia – you’re no longer able to make decisions for yourself, Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) means someone you trust can do so on your behalf.

It’s important to have one in place, as otherwise your family would have to go through the slow and expensive process of applying to the Court of Protection to have a deputy appointed – and worse still, if you have a joint bank account with your partner it could become restricted, possibly stopping them from accessing their pension or income.

You can choose a friend or relative as your attorney, and the two different types of LPA – for Property and Financial Affairs, and for Health and Welfare – which enables them to help with managing your finances, paying bills and making decisions regarding your own health.

It’s never too soon to put a Lasting Power of Attorney in place. We’ll answer any questions and discuss your options, to make sure you have what’s right for you.
